PURPOSE:To be allowed to use a long glass raw material only with small modification of ordinary equipment by enabling the hermetic pipe connected to the upper part of a heating unit to be splitted when bar type glass raw material is supported in the heating unit to be heated, elongated and to be made thin. CONSTITUTION:For instance, such a glass fiber production device is used that is provided with the hermetic pipe 4 connected to the upper part of the heating unit 5, the hermetic pipe 2 which is of the same diameter as the pipe 4 and fixed on the pipe 4, and the supporting shaft 1 which is fixed to a pulling-up shaft with a chuck between and has a connection part at the lower end part. The bar type basic material 3 is fixed in such a state that the hermetic pipe 2 is set around the supporting shaft 1 in advance. Then, the hermetic pipe 2 is moved downward to connect with the upper part of the hermetic pipe 4, and the drawing is carried out. Thus, the hermetic pipe 2 is separately provided for the large basic material without elongating the hermetic pipe 4 with the result that the glass fiber is produced from a long glass basic material without large modification of ordinary equipment. |
