PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance of high purity silica glass fibers at high temp. and to universally use a product of the fibers with high reliability in place of asbestos by coating the surfaces of the fibers satisfying prescribed conditions with colloidal silica, etc. CONSTITUTION:The surfaces of high purity silica glass fibers having 3-20mum filament diameter are treated with an org. compd. and the treated surfaces of the fibers are coated with colloidal silica, ethyl silicate, a modified product thereof or a mixture of them. A woven or nonwoven fabric or a sleeve is produced from the coated fibers and used in place of asbestos. |
