PURPOSE:To reduce power consumption and the cost of an optical waveguide switch by holding an optical path for propagated light in a gap only when a voltage is not applied to an element which is displaced in a gap formed halfway in an optical waveguide to cut off the propagated light. CONSTITUTION:When no voltage is applied to the displacement member 1, the light which is propagated in the optical waveguide 8-2 is guided to an optical waveguide 8-1 through the optical path holding part 10 of the element 2 in the gap 9 provided halfway in the optical waveguide. Then, when the voltage is applied to the displacement member 1, the displacement member 1 is displaced toward the surface of the optical waveguide 8-1 with generated static electric power. The element 2 provided atop of the displacement member 1 is displaced in the gap and the propagated light which is projected from the optical waveguide 8-1 is cut off by the element 2. Consequently, the propagated light is guided when no voltage is applied, but cut off when the voltage is applied. |
