Load limiter, particularly for an elevator (lifting device) controlled by a chain or the like, in which a movable chassis 2 is moved vertically by a chain 3 under the action of a motor 5, characterised in that it consists of a pneumatic thrust cylinder 8 supplied with compressed gas through the use of a regulator associated with a calibration valve, the said thrust cylinder 8 being interposed between the control chain 3 and the movable chassis 2.
