PURPOSE:To economically and advantageously produce an aromatic urethane compound without recovering a main catalyst by reacting an aromatic nitro compound with a hydroxyl group-containing organic compound and CO in a state in which a platinum group metal that is the main catalyst is prefixed in a reactor. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic nitro compound is reacted with a hydroxyl group- containing organic compound (e.g., ethanol or methanol) and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst system consisting of a platinum group metal which is a main catalyst, a Lewis acid that is a cocatalyst and a nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic compound which is a ligand to provide an aromatic urethane. In the process, the reaction is carried out in a reactor having the platinum group metal (Pd or Ru is industrially and preferably used) that is the main catalyst fixed therein. Methods for coating the inner surface of the reactor with the platinum group metal by a means, such as plating or flame spraying, are cited as a method for fixing the platinum group metal in the reactor. The afore-mentioned method is economically advantageous, since practice of operation, such as feed, recovery and regeneration of the main catalyst, is not required and loss thereof is small. |
