PURPOSE:To obtain smooth shift feeling by using engine torque as a parameter for line pressure control upon detecting an up-shift operation and a turbine speed as a parameter upon detecting a down-shift operation. CONSTITUTION:In an up-shift operation, line pressure control in the gear change control of an automatic transmission is made, using engine torque TE detected with an engine torque detecting means as a parameter. In a down-shift operation, a turbine speed TSP detected with an engine speed detecting means is used as a parameter. Consequently, proper line pressure control is embodied with emphasis placed upon a torque element in the up-shift operation. Also, proper line pressure control is embodied with emphasis so placed upon the fastening timing of friction elements as to correspond to an engine speed after a gear change in the down-shift operation. According to the aforesaid construction, it is possible to pertinently control line pressure in agreement with the inherently required characteristics at the time of a gear change, and gear shift feeling is improved. |
