PURPOSE:To simplify the evaluation of the quantity of angular shift between an optical main axis and a geometrical main axis by cutting an optical fiber to connect as original and connecting the end part on the side opposite to the cut point of the optical fiber to the other end part on the cut side thereof to measure cross talk. CONSTITUTION:One polarization holding optical fiber is cut at a cut point 3 to be divided into optical fiber 1, 2 and the end parts 15, 25 of both fibers are fused and connected at the cut point 3 while axial aligning is performed according to a geometrical main axis. The end part 15 on the side of the cut point 3 of the optical fiber 1 and the end part 26 on the side opposite to the cut point 3 of the optical fiber 2 or the end part 16 on the side opposite to the cut point 3 of the optical fiber 1 and the end part 25 on the side of the cut point 3 of the optical fiber 2 are fused and connected while axial aligning is taken so as to coincide with a geometrical main axis to measure cross talk. The quantity of angular shift between mutual optical main axes at the connection point can be determined from the cross talk value and bisected to calculate the quantity of angular shift between he geometrical and optical main axes of the original optical fiber. |
