Power assist hide applicator for strectching a wet hide against a smooth planar surface for drying comprises a motor powered slicker element positioned near to a hide-carrying plate, a separate motor for moving the element support in a plane parallel to the plate, and a power assisted thrust arrangement for moving the element perpendicular to the plate to contact the hide. The slicker element is pref. a blade.
