PURPOSE: To obtain a dry inorg. ultrafilter membrane without cracks by coating a porous carbon tube of a specified state with an inorg. coating material to introduce the coating material into pores of the carbon tube. CONSTITUTION: A porous carbon tube having 100 nm to about 2μm pore diameter and 20 to 40% pore volume is used as the supporting body. A coating material comprising an water-insoluble oxide such as IIIA, IIIB, IVB groups of the periodical table such as zirconia is applied to cover the supporting body so that the coating material fills the pores of the supporting body and do not cause cracks. The particles which form the coating has 10 nm to 1μm particle size, and the coating film is formed up to 20μm thickness. The obtd. ultrafilter membrane is a dry film with increased stability and no cracks.
