PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for cilazapril which is a hypotensive agent under mild conditions by reacting a culture of a specific microorganism, microbial cells and treated substances thereof with hydroxyphenylbutyric acid. CONSTITUTION:A culture of at least one microorganism selected from microorganisms, having the ability to convert 2-hydroxy-4phenylbutyric acid into 2-oxo-4-phenylbutyric acid and belonging to the genus Corynebacterium, Brevibacterium, Microbacterium, Arthrobacter or Bacillus, microbial cells or treated substances thereof are reacted with the 2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyric acid to afford the objective compound from the resultant reaction solution. |
