Brown coal containing water, ash, xylite and quartz is burnt in power plant with a coal dust fired boiler (1) with an oscillating grate (8) followed by a stationary fluidised bed combustion unit (24). This unit handles about 20 percent of the load and receives coal dust from a bunker (20) in another part of the plant. The fluidised bed is positioned below heating surfaces (10) inside a vertical part of the flue gas outlet of the boiler and is followed by an ash collector (13) below a parallel part (14) of the flue gas channel. This has further stages connecting it to a separator (19) for the bunker (20) which has a return channel (22) to the fluidised bed. USE/ADVANTAGE - Brown coal-fired boiler. Sulphur is burnt together with other inclusions.
