To produce and handle sound broadcast transmissions, a contribution library is accessed which contains a multiplicity of sound broadcast contributions (music and/or word) stored on a record. Selected records of the contribution library are called up by means of a control device in accordance with a predetermined transmission schedule for playback to playback stations and supplied to a transmitting device. According to the invention, digital optoelectronic storage systems are provided as records for the contribution library.
