摘要 Flowing liq. and/or gas inside a cylindrical unit (10), which may be incorporated by terminal flanges in a conduit, is irradiated with UV light from one or more tubular sources (22) in protective tubes permeable to UV. The radiation is pref. directed, with max. intensities in the flow direction. Such direction is promoted by the shape of the tubes, which are flattened oval, pref. with fluting and/or internal reflectors (28). The tubes may be in one or more rows transversely spanning the flow direction, and so spaced from each other and the cylinder walls that radiation intensity nowhere drops by more than 50% in the intermediate gaps. The cylindrical unit may have an enlarged dia. central zone, approached by walls sloping at no more than 45 deg. ADVANTAGE - Appts. combines low radiation losses with uniformly high intensity.
