PURPOSE: To melt and homogenize a bulk material more efficiently, by causing an electrode chip do draw a circular arc with respect to a container and, at the same time, by causing relative motions between electrodes and the container so that an agitating effect may be caused in a molten material. CONSTITUTION: An electrode 20 having chips 22 is attached to the free end of a supporting arm 26. The arm 26 is connected to a supporting plate 32 with a pin 30 and a bush 40 having a threaded section is attached to the supporting post 36 of the plate 32. When a motor 44 rotates a screw 43, the post 36 moves relatively to a container 12. In addition, the arm 26 is rotatably mounted on the supporting plate 32 with the pin 30 and a motor is mounted on the plate 32 for rotating the arm 26. When the post 36 is moved by swinging the arm 26, the chip 22A of the electrode 20 moves along the circles 70A' and 70A" corresponding to the positions 22A' and 22A" of the chip 22A. |
