PURPOSE:To perform the startup discrimination of an engine without time lag by providing an in-cylinder pressure sensor for detecting the pressure in a cylinder, a combustion parameter arithmetic means for extracting a combustion parameter from the output of the in cylinder pressure sensor, and a startup discriminating means for discriminating the startup of the engine from the output of the combustion parameter arithmetic means. CONSTITUTION:At a startup time, a control device 12 inputs a crank angle signal S3 and a pressure signal S6, operates a combustion parameter included in the in-cylinder pressure waveform, and discriminates the startup of an engine. The combustion hereof is for detecting the combustion state of the engine, that is, for instance, the in-cylinder pressure maximum value (Pmax), the crank angle position (thetaPmax) where Pmax is generated, the in-cylinder maximum climbing rate (dp/dthetamax), the average effective pressure (Pi), and the like, and the variation of these values at/after the startup time of the engine enables the startup discrimination. |
