The invention relates to a resistance welding unit for welding wires. Due to a switching lever which is arranged in the resistance welding unit between two jaw carriers and interacts with a useful-life switch during the welding process, the resistance welding unit has a low weight as well as simple mechanics in an easy-to-handle configuration and can also be used as a hand-operated unit. Furthermore, the invention relates to a resistance cutting unit for cutting wires. By means of an adjusting member which enables the jaw spacing of the jaw carriers to be adjusted and by means of a switching arrangement which enables the current feed to be switched on, the resistance cutting unit, at a lower weight and with simple mechanics, is easy to handle and can also be used as a hand-operated unit. Furthermore, the invention relates to a contactor for the above units. In order to be able to directly switch welding currents at a low voltage without malfunctions, the contacts of the contactor are designed as face-ground contact plates held by contact carriers, one contact carrier being connected via a joint to a contact lever.
