PURPOSE:To shorten the investigation time of the cause of a read error at the time of the read error during read operation by an input/output device such as a magnetic tape, an optical disk, etc., by performing read diagnosis by using another input/output device of the same kind. CONSTITUTION:When an input/output processing circuit 120 receives the read diagnistic instruction of data from a central processing unit through a line 202, it drives a data transfer circuit 110 through the line 203, and when the occurrence of the read error is detected in the course of the read operation of the data from the input/output device 130, it performs the read diagnosis of the data for the input/output device 140 which is different from the device 130 but of the same kind through the line 204. When the diagnostic results in the normal reading operation of the device 140, it sends a report saying that the read error occurred because the device 130 is defective to the central processing unit through the line 202. When the operation of the device 140 can not be executed normally, it sends the report saying that it is possible that the read error occurred because an input/output controller 100 is defective to the central processing unit. |
