Each set of fixed contacts 40, 42 includes a slanting surface provided with a first fixed main contact 46, and with a fixed arc contact 44 with interposition of a second fixed main contact 48. Each pole includes four elementary knives 50, 52; 54, 56 distributed in twos as a small clip and a large clip which are mutually offset longitudinally by a small axial space L4, the small clip having a first pair of knives 50, 52 having, at each end, a first moving main contact 58 cooperating with the said first fixed main contact 46, the large clip having a second pair of knives 54, 56 comprising, at each end, a second moving main contact 60, and a moving arc contact 62 cooperating respectively with the said second fixed main contact 48 and fixed arc contact 44, the assembly allowing continuity of flow of the current in the pole during the on phase, by virtue of the progressive order of docking of the moving arc contact 62, of the first moving main contact 58 and of the second moving main contact 60 with the corresponding fixed contacts.
