The alumina from bauxite containing monohydrates is continuously produced by the stagts of: prohibiting scaling of sodium aluminosilicate on reactor's walls, crushing and suspending the bauxite in an aqueous solution of caustic soda, raising the temp. of the suspension from 90 to 108 deg.C, holding at that temp. for a period of time sufficient to convert at least 75% of the aluminium silicate into insoluble sodium aluminosilicate, steam-heating it at 160 deg.C with a speed of 2-12 deg.C/min. and 0.4-7 m/se., raising and maintaining it at 200-300 de.C to solubilise at least 90% of extractable alumina, returning it to atmospheric pressure with recovery of the steam.
