A control mechanism 26 for a multipole switch with sleeve-shaped contact-holder bar includes a bell crank 68 with abrupt dead centre transition under the action of a spring 88 and of an operating lever 28, a transmission lever 78 with curvilinear slot 80 in which the articulation pin 74 of the bell crank 68 moves, and a rotary drum 92 equipped with a safety tag 100 able to cooperate with a lug 102 of the transmission lever 78 to form a direct auxiliary mechanical link between the bar and the operating handle 28, following blockage of the bar after exceeding the dead centre of opening of the bell crank. This link is broken automatically in the event of normal opening. Application: low-voltage panel for a public distribution substation. <IMAGE>
