The invention relates to a device for transporting motor vehicles, which consists of one or more route sections or one route network and a plurality of transport vehicles which are track-guided on the route or routes and are to be loaded and unloaded with the motor vehicles, under the motor vehicle's own drive at stations. In order to provide a device of the type mentioned at the beginning which permits individual transport of individual vehicles even over comparatively short route sections, it is proposed according to the invention that the individual transport vehicles be designed to receive in each case one motor vehicle and to be capable of travelling over the route automatically as a function of a central computer to which destination signal transmitters which are present at the stations can be connected. In this way, it is possible to carry out largely automatic transport of motor vehicles, removed from the road network, specifically to and from all stations which are connected to the route or the entire route network. All that is necessary is to program a desired destination using a destination signal transmitter with payment of the charge calculated thereby, after which access is given to the actual transfer ramp in which the driver of a motor vehicle can drive his vehicle onto a waiting transport vehicle, the said transport vehicle then being swivelled into the direction of transport and automatically directed towards the desired destination. <IMAGE>
