The invention relates to a rod seal which can be fitted into a groove (4) and is intended for rotating rods. To increase the wear resistance and obtain sealing in both axial directions, the rod seal is constructed from a PTFE ring (1) and a rubber ring (2) which surrounds the PTFE ring, the PTFE ring (1) having, on its inner circumferential surface (7), two sleeves (9, 10) of tongue-shaped cross-section which are spread apart in a V shape relative to the radial centre plane (8) of the seal and the inner edges (11, 12) of which are designed as lip seals. <IMAGE>
