The method of the invention consists in that the biological tissues under study are irradiated with an electro-magnetic flux in the form of radio-frequency pulses having a central spectrum frequency of from 0.5 to 10 GHz, whereupon a spatial position of the moving boundary between the biological tissues is determined from the phase shift of the return signal. The device for carrying the method into effect comprises a probing pulse shaper (1), a transmitting antenna (2), a receiving antenna (3), a return signal measuring unit (4) incorporating a stroboscopic range sweep detector (6) connected to the receiving antenna (3), and a pulse recording unit (5) connected to the measuring unit (4). The radiation emanating from the antenna 2 may be polarized to suit the biological tissue under study. <IMAGE>
