PURPOSE:To provide a metal-working oil containing a specific monoester compound (or its alkali metal salt or amine salt), exhibiting excellent cutting and grinding performance, free from odor and having improved degradation resistance, durability and deforming property. CONSTITUTION:The objective metal-working oil contains a monoester compound of formula or its alkali metal salt (e.g., Na or K salt) or an amine salt (preferably salt of alkanolamine, etc.). The above monoester compound can be synthesized e.g., by mixing ricinoleic acid with equimolar amount of maleic anhydride using a proper solvent, reacting the components with each other by leaving standing at room temperature or a relatively low temperature and removing the solvent under reduced pressure. |
