PURPOSE: To prevent fracture of a lever by so assembling a resilient element in a lever assembly that the torsional stressing increases while armature of solenoid moves without being accompanied by movement of a pinion assembly. CONSTITUTION: An armature 24 is attracted by solenoid excitation, a lever assembly 28 is rotated anticlockwise, a pinion assembly 15 is pressed to an operative position and teeth of the pinion wheel 16 is engaged with a ring gear of an engine. Then, while a motor is on work, the engine is cranking. However, during movement to the operative position of the pinion assembly 15, the heel of tooth of the pinion wheel 16 can not move while it abutts with the heel of tooth of the ring gear, however as the armature 24 continuously moves, an elastic member 31 of the lever assembly 28 is bent. Because the bending is made to generate a reaction force by adding a predetermined load during assembly, the armature 24 closes a switch with increasing the reaction force to actuate the motor, while the pinion wheel 16 starts rotation, it completely engages with teeth of the ring gear to quickly move to the operative position. |
