The acoustic resonator comprises an input interdigital transducer (3) and an output interdigital transducer (2) on a substrate (1) coated with a sound-absorbing material (4) near its ends to prevent reflection. A reflector (5) returns the acoustic surface wave produced by the h.f. voltage applied to the input interdigital transducer. The reflector is located either side of the input and output transducer, the relative spacing being determined by the wavelength.
