A piezoelectric control element having a multiplicity of piezoelectric discs arranged in a stack, which element contains a gastight or liquid-tight housing (2) which receives the stack and has a baseplate (2a) provided with a flange and a preferably cylindrical cartridge-type shell (2b) which matches the baseplate (2a) shapewise and has an inlet spout (2c), the shell (2b) being fitted in a liquid-tight or gastight manner on the baseplate (2a) by means of a sealing ring (4), the stack (1) contains the multiplicity of piezoelectric discs in a loose stacking arrangement and a working connector (3) being located on the uppermost disc, which connector has a preferably cylindrical plunger part which extends outwards through an opening in the lid part of the shell (2), in a manner which is gastight or liquid-tight, by means of a further sealing ring (6), and a foot part having larger diameter, on which foot part a return spring element (5) is located which is supported against the inner surface of the lid part and produces tight packing of the discs. Electrical connection elements (7, 7') for actuating the control element are led outwards in gastight or liquid-tight manner through a corresponding opening in the shell wall. The housing is filled with a gaseous or fluid medium which is resistant to high voltage via the inlet spout (2c) which can be closed in gastight or liquid-tight manner.
