A projector has an automatic focusing device for the projection objective which is accommodated in an axially adjustable manner by a carrier sleeve (mounting sleeve) which is supported by a carriage which is constructed so as to be displaceable forwards and backwards on the projector housing in the direction of projection by the servomotor of the focusing device by means of an eccentric drive. To create a smoothly-running guided carriage, the carriage is supported on the projector housing by means of two pairs of bore elements so as to be freely displaceable. <IMAGE>
