<p>An oil filter for purifying lubricating oil, especially for internal combustion engines of motor vehicles, with a filter housing which is arranged at least approximately upright in the installed state, and also with an annular oil filter cartridge inserted therein, and also with an oil inlet for contaminated oil flowing around the oil filter cartridge and with an oil outlet, connected to the central inner region of the filter housing, for purified oil in a plinth at the lower end of the filter housing, and also with a discharge channel, which can be connected to the inlet space of the filter housing by removing the oil filter cartridge, at the lower end of the filter housing and with a closing element which closes the discharge channel off from the filter housing, is characterised in that the closing element is a valve body (3) which is displaceable in the discharge channel (25) in the axial direction and which, together with at least one inlet corner (26) of the discharge channel (25) forms a valve, that the valve body (2) is prestressed by a first, weaker spring (4) in the direction of opening and that the valve body (3) can be prestressed in the closing direction by a second, stronger spring (5), this spring being supported, with the filter cartridge (6) inserted into the filter housing (2), on the end face (54) thereof facing the valve body (3). …<IMAGE>… </p> |
