PROCESS AND SOLVENTMIXTURE FOR PURIFICATION OF AMFOTERICYN B

Amphotericin B salt forming compsn. comprises amphotericin B of formula (I) and a salt forming acid in a soln of MeOH, DMF and CH2Cl2, in an amt to enhance the crystallintiy and purity of (I), and water. Also claimed is a process for the purification and crystallisation of (I) which comprises: (a) forming a soln. of (I) in MeOH, DMF, and acid capable of forming a salt with (I); (b) sepg. (I) extract form insolubles; (c) combining (I) extract with CH2Cl2, in an amt to enhance the crystallinity and purity of (I), and water; (d) adjusting the pH of the mixt. to 5-7; (e) heating the slurry to expedite the formation of crystalline material; and (f) recovering crystalline (I).
