PURPOSE: To set hair permanently without denaturation of keratin by bringing hair into contact with a cross-linking agent bearing a group selectively bonding to a free sulfhydryl group and another group selectively bonding to free amino group in a keratin substance. CONSTITUTION: As a cross-linking agent, is used a compound bearing a part that can selectively bond to free sulfhydryl group and another part that can selectively form a bond with a free amino group in a keratin substance, for example, N-sulfosuccinimidyl [4-(N-maleimidemethyl)] cyclohexanecarboxylate to treat a keratin substance (hair) with the cross-linking agent in such an amount that the cross-linking bonds can be sufficiently formed but the protein of the keratin substance is not substantially modified. This cross-linking agent can make hair wavy or straight, as desired. It can give hair having good curls and strong hair strength and is particularly suitable for curling bleached hair. |
