<p>On recording, in each D2-MAC/packet video signal, the chrominance and luminance components are temporally decompressed in order to be recorded on a magnetic tape by two channels (A, B). The two channels serve for practically simultaneously recording the decompressed components of an odd line (2i+1) and those of the even line (2(i+1)) which follows it. Moreover, the burst of data with duobinary coding is digitised, and converted into a digital train with NRZ coding. Each digital train relating to an even-line (2(i+1)) video signal is stored in series with the digital train relating to the preceding odd-line (2i+1) video signal in order to form a packet which is temporally decompressed in order to be recorded, after duobinary recoding, with at one and the same time the chrominance and luminance components relating to the odd line (2i+1) and those relating to the even line (2(i+1)). On reading, the chrominance and luminance components of a pair of odd (2i+1) and even (2(i+1)) lines are temporally decompressed, on the one hand, and the packets corresponding to the said lines being decompressed, on the other hand. The selection in each of the packets of the first train to be placed at the front of the D2-MAC/packet video signal of the odd line (2i+1) and the selection of the second train to be placed at the front of the even-line (2(i+1)) D2-MAC/packet video signal are made as a function of error information.
