The invention is a valve situated in the discharge line of a water heater or the like in worksheds and weekend cottages in order to automatically open for water drainage when temperatures are so low that there is a risk of freezing. A body that is temperature-dependent as regards volume (14; 23) lies against one end of the valve spindle (6), whose other end has a stop cock plug (5). Around the valve spindle and between its ends there is a compression spring (10) whose force is directed away from the stop cock plug. When the body (14; 23) has an expanded volume, which corresponds to a temperature above the risk of freezing, the stop cock plug (5) forms a seal against the valve seat (4). When the temperature drops so that there is a risk of freezing the volume of the body (14; 23) decreases so that the compression spring (10) pulls the stop cock plug (5) away from the valve seat (4). The valve is also designed in such a way that it can be calibrated for the correct freeze risk temperature or zone, which for water is best set to +5 to 0 degrees C. Preferably, the valve also has an overload spring (17) to prevent valve rupture when the volume of the body (14; 23) is greater due to higher temperatures.<IMAGE> |
