The structure, intended for a cooling tower comprises a framework resting on foundations and a thin section carried by the framework and delimiting a chimney (tower); the framework consists of a lattice having a triangular mesh, formed by several sets of bars 8a and having a symmetry of revolution about the vertical axis of the structure, the bars being connected by nodes located at the apexes of the meshes. The thin section 30, made from a textile material, forms a continuous chimney (tower) arranged inside the framework, and is tensioned by connections with the latter at points which are distributed over the framework with a greater vertical spacing than that of the assembly nodes. <IMAGE>
