PURPOSE: To obtain a high-sensitivity position sensor of which output signals are large by setting the width of a permanent magnet at about 1.5 times of the arranging pitch of the teeth of an exciter and providing a sensor element having a narrow width. CONSTITUTION: The position sensor 20 used for detecting the speed, etc., of a vehicle is constituted of a permanent magnet 22 and an exciter 12 and the width of the magnet 22 is set at about 1.5 times of the arranging pitch of the teeth 12A of the exciter 12. A layer 24 of a high permeability magnetic material, such as iron, etc., is provided on the magnet 22 and electrodes 16A and 16B are provided on the layer 24 through an insulating layer 26. In addition, a sensor element 16 having a narrow width is attached to the central part of the magnet 24. When the sensor 20 is constituted in such a way, the difference between the maximum and minimum magnetic flux densities to the element 16 becomes larger and a sensor having remarkably higher sensitivity as compared with the conventional sensor can be obtained. |
