A method is described of automatically transferring an elastic yarn from a full-bobbin (8a) to an empty-bobbin (8). The yarn transfer operation is performed in a state such that a friction roll (1) is remote from the empty-bobbin (8) around which a yarn to be transferred is wound, and the yarn to be transferred is wound on the empty-bobbin (8) by stopping the full-bobbin (8a).
