Neutron absorption pellets are produced by preparing a mixture of electrolytic crystals or shavings of Hf and B4C making 40-100% of the total with ratio of Hf/(Hf+B4c being 0.2-1. The balance is other metallic elements melting at above 400 deg.C. The mixture is then compacted in a mould to produce an 80% or more average density and then sintered before being removed from the mould and finish worked.
