The invention comprises sultams of the general formula in which R is an aryl, amino-substituted aryl or acylamino-substituted aryl radical and R1 is an unsubstituted unsaturated alkylene radical which may bear alkyl side chains or which may form a portion of an external carbocyclic ring configuration (preferably the alkylene radical contains two unsaturated olefinic bonds and four carbon atoms in the sultam ring), and the preparation thereof by heating an unsaturated sultane of the general formula with a primary amine RNH2 at a temperature sufficient to split off water and subsequently recovering the sultam formed.
