PURPOSE:To provide the title latex having fine particle size with crosslinking structure as well as low glass transition temperature, excellent in dispersion stability and film-formability, capable of giving films of outstanding transparency, water resistance and mechanical strength, and useful for coatings, adhesives, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective latex <=100nm (pref. <=80nm) in mean particle size, having crosslinked structure as well as the glass transition temperature lower than that calculated by the weight fraction method. This latex can be prepared by emulsion polymerization, in the presence of an emulsifying agent, of an unsaturated monomer [pref. (meth)acrylic ester, lower fatty acid vinyl ester, nitrile or styrene].
