The present invention relates to a method for preparing silicon dioxide particles having a porosity of less than 45% and a mean particle size of more than 50 μm by allowing a solution of fluorosilicic acid to react with ammonia at a temperature of more than 100 degree C and under a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure. In contrast to the methods known hitherto, carried out at temperatures below 100 degree C and under atmospheric pressure, it is possible, using the method according to the present invention, to produce solid silicon dioxide particles having a low porosity (porosity less than 10%) and a mean particle size of 10-200μm.
