NEW MATERIAL:FR900280 substance shown by the formula or a salt thereof. USE:Having inhibitory action on aldose reductase and useful as a drug for remedying and treating diabetic complication such as cornea injury healing deficiency, neuropathy, retinopathy and renal disorder, especially cataract and neuropathy. PREPARATION:A fungus belonging to the genus Humicola, capable of producing FR900280 substance is cultivated in a medium and FR900280 substance is separated and collected from the prepared culture solution. Submerged culture is preferable for mass production and the culture is carried out usually at 10-40 deg.C, preferably 25-35 deg.C for 50-10 hours. Since FR900280 substance, in many cases, is found in a culture filtrate of culture solution, the substance is separated and collected from a culture filtrate by conventional procedure. |
