The in-line type electron gun for improving the resolution by removing the vertical flare includes a first, second, and other electrodes each of which has 3 holes for passing the electron beam. The first electrode has two rectangular slots at upper and lower positions from the beam holes. The second electrode has vertical slots placed between the beam holes. The electron beam passed through the second electrode makes a vertically elliptic and asymmetrical form so that the vertical flare can be removed.
