In the case of known ramming devices for feeding ammunition which needs to be loaded separately into the firing chamber of a large-caliber gun (weapon with a barrel), the ramming lever is driven via an epicyclic gear which is mounted on a support which can pivot. However, such a drive runs into limits resulting from its weight and its space requirements when it is necessary to move the ramming lever over an extremely long and straight movement path. The invention provides a remedy for this by the use of a chain drive or belt drive (14, 15, 16), because the pinion (15) which is required for the pivoting movement of the ramming lever (8) about its axis can be arranged at a large distance from a stationary central axis (12) of a support (9) which holds the pinion (15) and of a stationary pinion (14) which is connected to the pinion (15) via a chain. On one side, the support (9) contains a toothed segment (11) by means of which it can be driven such that it pivots about the stationary axis (12). The chain drive (14, 15, 16) illustrated or a bolt drive which is not illustrated enables gentle feeding as a result of the elasticity of the chain or of the bolt, especially of a propellant charge, from a relatively large distance. <IMAGE>
