A disposable cover (34) is provided for each of the blades (12, 14) of a vaginal speculum to prevent cross-contamination of patients examined by the same instrument. The cover (34) is constructed of a polymeric resin or plastic material with a flared opening. By compressing the edges of the flared opening towards one another, the cover is temporarily flexed out of its relaxed concavo-convex configuration allowing it to be slipped onto the blade (12, 14). The cover then returns to its relaxed state allowing for improved surgical visibility. |
