A method of producing a decorative metal plate includes the steps of a) forming concave recesses or grooves in the surface of a metal plate by etching, b) placing a masking sheet (7) on the groove plate (6), and c) spraying a composite coating material (9) on the masked metal plate. The composite material filling the grooves a produces multicolored and complex attractive design.
