PURPOSE:To perform highly sensitive separation analysis of polycyclic aromatic nitro compounds by applying gaschromatography using a surface ionization detector. CONSTITUTION:A surface ionization detector 1 comprises a tubular body provided with a gas introducing port 2 and a gas exhaust port 3 at both ends. The gas introducing port 2 is constituted with a nozzle 5 which is linked to a separating column 4 of a gaschromatograph. The opening end of the port 2 is opened into an ionizing chamber 6. A base electrode 7 is provided around the opening end and connected to the negative side of a DC power source 8. An air introducing pipe 9 is provided around the nozzle 5 in the ionizing chamber 6. At first, polycyclic aromatic nitro compounds in a specimen are separated into individual compounds by gaschromatography and brought into contact with the surface of a heated solid in a gaseous state. The compounds are sequentially ionized, and molecular ions and decomposed ions are generated. The quantities of the molecular ions and the decomposed ions correspond to the concentrations of the polycyclic aromatic nitro compounds, therefore, highly sensitive separation and analysis of the polycyclic aromatic nitro compounds in the specimen can be performed by measuring the ionizing current. |
