In a process in which ethylene oxide is produced by contacting a gas stream comprising ethylene and oxygen with a silver containing catalyst which is also contacted with a chlorine containing reaction modifier and an oxide of nitrogen, more ethylene oxide is produced at similar selectivity if the gas phase comprises more than 35% ethylene by volume.
