PURPOSE: To improve a light resistant fastness and a heat resistance and to upgrade an optical density by providing a coating made of an azo dye represented by a specific general formula and a binder on a support, and forming a thermal transfer printing sheet. CONSTITUTION: A coating liquid is prepared by dissolving or dispersing a binder and an azo dye represented by a formula I [wherein R is a residue of an active methylene compound, X is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heteroaryl group, Y is -S-, =N-R<1> (R<1> is a hydrogen atom, 1-4C alkyl group), E is a residue of a coupling component] in a suitable solvent. A support is coated with the liquid, dried to form a color developing layer, and the thermal transfer printing sheet is manufactured. As an embodiment of the binder, a cellulose derivative, hydrocarbon derivative, a vinyl resin and derivatives or the like is used. |
