The motor-adjustable head restraint for the back rest of a vehicle seat is provided with a driving unit, to which a motor (36) and a reduction gear belong, and a support cushion which can be adjusted between a storage position, in which it is located behind the back rest, and a support region, as well as within this support region, about a support hoop (22) which is mounted pivotably and is connected to the driving unit by the gear. In order to configure the angular speed of the adjusting movement within the support region such that it is clearly lower than for the swinging-up from the storage position into the support region, it is proposed that the gear have a reduction ratio which is dependent on the swivelling angle of the head restraint, the reduction ratio being clearly larger for an adjustment within the support region, in particular being at least twice as large as the reduction ratio for an adjustment between the storage position and support region. <IMAGE>
