A powered hand tool such as an angle grinder or the like has a machine head (3) with a tool shaft emerging at the bottom and an essentially cylindrical fastening neck (4) which encloses the tool shaft and to which a protective hood (7) can be rotatably and releasably fastened. The protective hood (7) contains a fastening ring (8) to be put onto the fastening neck (4) and a hood part (9) attached to the fastening ring (8). The fastening neck (4) has an annular groove (14) at its outer peripheral surface and at least one connecting recess (17), extending up to the annular groove (14), at the end annular-groove wall (16). Arranged on the inner peripheral surface of the fastening ring (8) is a holding projection (22) which can be put through the connecting recess (17) and can slide in the annular groove (14). The inside diameter of the fastening ring (8) can be continuously adjusted in such a way that the fastening ring (8), in the slipped-on state on the fastening neck (4), is retained in a self-locking manner in the rotary position set by turning manually. <IMAGE>
